Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. Her family and she moved abroad when she was just three. Summer attended British and American schools during the time her family was living abroad. she returned home to her hometown town of Pasadena just before her 14th birthday. Summer was five years old when she was captivated by acting. She enrolled in her first acting class. Nine months later she got an agent and manager, and started to pursue her profession full-time. In her spare time, she attends college and is striving to complete her degree. She was among the stars of the future featured in VanityFair's August 2008 cover issue, "Hollywood’s New Wave: Hollywood's Hottest Kids in Hollywood". Bishil started her acting lessons at age 14 years old. Within a year Bishil was offered an employment contract by a management or agency. Bishil began her career on the Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks. After that she was offered a contract with a manager and agency. Her breakthrough role was in Alan Ball's 2007 film Towelhead. It is an adaptation of the novel with the same name. Slate critic Dana Stevens said, "Her performance is the truest thing in a movie that, with all its great intentions, comes off as phony and mildly embarrassing, like an extended PSA concerning inappropriate touching." Bob Strauss, who writes for a variety of Los Angeles newspapers, states that Bishil, "...is one of the finest natural actors to come out in recent years." Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the film Towelhead and stated that "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a sly, captivating performance in the role of Jasira. In 2009 she filmed Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over movie starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd. Jay Reiner, Associated Press, appreciated her portrayal. She was selected to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel never released.
