Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 1 January
2015) was an actress from Sweden, popular for her gorgeous physique and
attractive appearance. Her role as Sylvia in Federico Fellini's movie La Dolce
Vita (1960) has made her a household name. Ekberg mostly worked in Italy which
she later made her permanent residence in the year 1964. Anita Ekberg was the
eighth child in a family of eight. Anita was a model during her teens. Ekberg
on the advice by her mother in 1950, entered Miss Malmo. She took home the Miss
Sweden contest. Despite not speaking much English she travelled to the United
States to compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant until
the pageant officially became official in 1952). Ekberg wasn't the Miss
Universe winner, but she was among six semi-finalists. However, she did earn an
endorsement from Universal Studios as a starlet. She was a Universal starlet
who received instruction in dramatization, elocution , horseback riding,
fencing and elocution. She did a brief appearance in The Mississippi Gambler
(1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) and The
Golden Blade (53).
