Watts was born 28 September 1968. After her family moved to Australia She made
her film debut there in the drama For Love Alone (1986) and later appeared in
three shows on television, Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ (1991) as well as
Home and Away (1991) as well as the feature film Flirting (1991). After making
the move to the United States, Watts initially was not a successful actress,
acting in small-scale film until she made her debut in David Lynch's psychological
thriller Mulholland Drive in 2001 as an aspiring actress. Her rise to
international fame was triggered by this role. Watts played the part of an
unmotivated journalist in The Ring, a horror film that was remade. For her
portrayal of grieving mother in Alejandro film 21 Grams, she was nominated for
an Academy Award for Best Actress. She continued to rise to fame with her roles
in I Heart Huckabees (2004) and King Kong (2005) as well as Eastern Promises
(2007) and The International (2009). Watts was nominated for an Academy Award
for Best Actress for her role in The Impossible (2012) as Maria Bennett. She
starred in films like Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young
(2015). Watts kept her acting career going with major roles in blockbusters, including
Divergent (2015-2016).
